De Chitwan a Varanasi por tierra...200 eurillos de ahorro!
From Sounali in Nepal, you would go to Gorakpur in India. The bus from Chitwan leaves around 8am or so, takes about four hours. Then you take a rickshaw to the border, get your exit visa, walk across and get your India visa stamped. That whole process took less than half an hour. From there we took a local bus to Gorakhpur for a cost of about 100 rupees or something. It was crowded but got us there. The train from Gorakhpur is overnight and didn't leave until after 11pm, so you aren't in any hurry once you get to Sonauli, you'll have plenty of time to get there and book a train ticket. The whole journey costs less than the departure tax (for flying) from Kathmandu alone!
